Has anyone noticed that there's an apparent trend for 80's themed movies? Where the 80s were a punchline in the 90s and early 2000s, I think the unique elements of that era are being re-discovered and appreciated by younger people and the nostalgia enjoyed by those lucky enough to have grown up during that time. Specifically, I'm thinking of the hit short flick Kung Fury, which is an action-packed homage to 80's cop flicks. It's only 30 minutes long and was entirely funded through Kickstarter, and now is free to watch on their website or on their official YouTube channel. KUNG FURY TRAILERThe other one that springs to mind is Turbo Kid, which I had the immense pleasure to watch recently. That is a feature-length film shot on a limited budget but maximizes every cent to create a post-80's apocalyptic wasteland. It's an absolutely entertaining film! Imagine a Mad Max world with 1980s clothing, artifacts, and lingo. Be forewarned: the movie is VERY violent, but the violence is gleefully tongue-in-cheek and intentionally over the top. And Apple - oh my Apple! You will have to watch it to understand, but the girl named Apple makes the movie extra memorable! TURBO KID TRAILER

I watched and was highly amused by Kung Fury. And of course you got to love the 80's style theme song from David Hasselhoff! I have not, however, heard of Turbo Kid. I shall take a look. I'd better do it before the Beta starts, because I suspect I won't have any time for movies after that.
