I'm using Steem but have trouble saving games to the library. It seems to work if I directly load a game having just saved it but if I attempt to load the game after starting Sundog fresh, it can't find the game. I suspect it's an issue with Steem. Will experiment further...

I had tried both Hatari and Steem (BTW Steem has better scale capability than Hatari imho) and was getting the red screen (apparently this is due some sort of DRM or anticheating that has to do with writing and checking the sectors of the floppy).
But I keep trying and found out that most likely it was the disk image, I used one with the STX extensions (on Steem you need Pasti.dll in order to see this format) and so far is all good.
Cheers

I played it on the Apple "back in the day", and was very used to the primitive graphics. The Atari one seemed strange to me the first time I played it in an emulator a few years ago.

There has been lots happening in the emulation scene in the last few years. One of the biggest drivers of this is the popularity of cheap single board computers like the RaspberryPi and the even cheaper OrangePi. Some of these images are just mind blowing but most focus on arcade and console games but every now and then there is an image that has lots of old systems like Apple II, Atari ST, Sinclair, etc. Lately one such image has surfaced with a barrel load of old systems including apple II and atari st with 275 games....and Sundog is one of them! But...that particular game does not load, but I replaced it with another version and it does now work but I can't figure out how to save it..yet! You can check it out here: www.arcadepunks.com/32gb-recalbox-retro-gaming-image-7500-games-kodi/Here is a shot of the ST goodness on this image.

Thank you VERY much for this information, Mackie. I am downloading the easy setup file from old-games.com right now. I am hoping it works. I have an ST emulator that is working, but the ROM format for Sundog isn't the right file type for work and I've been trying for days. Hope this one works, been wanting to play this game since the last time I have which was 1987ish!

In classic SunDog, AtariST version...
First, refuel your ship and Repair it. I would say do not repair all the broken parts in the ship's bay, instead repair these to full: Sub-c and Warp Then buy as much Control Nodes as you can on Jondd from the parts shop, they go for 1795cr each if I remember correctly. Set a course to the Glory system, warp there, and go into a restaurant/bar building. Talk to the Barman and ask for other services; he'll ask if you wanna buy or sell, select sell. if the barman is being pissy about a bribe, try "Discuss it" or exit conversation and try again Show him a control note and go sit in a booth. NPCs will offer a solid 5,100cr for each control node - no need to haggle as it will most often than none fail. so quicker to accept the 5'100cr.
This should get you started. Later you can do this with concentrators and other parts too, but control nodes are a sure bet early on and quick to buy/sell.

Hey everyone,
Maybe someone can help me with this, I can't seem to get SunDog: Frozen Legacy to work well. If I get a encounter to try talking to someone, the game will freeze. 🥶
Hatari 2.4.1 TOS 1.04 Default settings (in hatari)
I've tried different cpu speeds, enchantments, more ram, (from 4 MB wow! to 14 MB)
I am just stumped.

I've personally never had very good luck with Hatari. I've always used PaCifiST but that was a very long time ago. I remember that newer Atari ST systems wouldn't run Sundog correctly but as I'm not very familiar with the Atari ST I don't remember exactly which versions worked and which didn't. I think using earlier ROMs was the key. There was also this issue: forums.atariage.com/topic/106987-red-screen-on-sundog-emulation-in-steem/ Take a look at that, as it may help you.

Also, I fixed my issue, I used 4 MB of ram, the game does not like that. using 1 MB fixed it. Now I get a red screen of death when exiting the city . The PaCifiST site download links don't work they use ftp? it opens chrome and nothing else. In internet explorer it wants me to log in.

Wish I could say more, but sadly I can't. It's probably been a decade since I used an Atari ST emulator of any kind. But that link might help you with red screen of death issues.

I would also recommend to stick to low TOS. I believe I ran with 1.02uk, might have been 1.02us tho, else you might have artifact (ghost images) in some place in the game. I also use STeeM as my emulator and it worked like a charm. One last thing, DO NOT use any "cracked" version of the game or those sharing other game (Such as "Automaton" volumes with 2-5 games menu). Try to get regular version. I like this one: www.atarimania.com/game-atari-st-sundog-frozen-legacy_11443.htmlYou'll need "Pasti" to read the .STx format with STeeM, but once activated (and turned on in the menu) you should be good to go. Disk image could be "Read-Only" so you might need to right click the image from the disk option in STeeM and remove the protection (unless you only plan to save thru the emulator, which is what I usually end up doing). PS: I also had freezing happen with a red screen when talking to ppl, usually means your game is corrupted or the image was created from a bad disk. I lost 2 games in like 7 because of that, even on a "pure" disk image. But with the setup listed above you should be good to go.

Since there is "STeeM Engine" and "STeeM SSE" i am going to try both. The STeeM Engine is probably the wrong one because its for XP updated in 2003... I am sorta new with ST emulators (Dang the apple one was SO much easier)
Ah again with the tos versions, I used tos 1.04 US (Thinking that latest besides 2.0 was better!) I am going to try both versions tos 1.02 uk and us.
Thanks again for your help!
PS: After posting this my beta tester role seems missing... But I can still see beta testing odd.

Heh heh heh... Maybe. I have both, but when it's not broken, don't fix it. They are pretty similar. I have both installed, and except for some special games ( like "Carrier Command" or "Dungeon Master" who are better with the Hard-Drive versions or ".Tos" files ) I still use the old STeeM one. At any rate, you are on the good track now !
