I see we have been adding members over the last while. Great to see the interest in this forum. I would link to this forum on Facebook except most of my friends certainly don't have a clue what a classic this game was. Also they will think I am an old nerd! Welcome to our new members!

Thank you! We love that people are finding the forums and getting involved! And yes, many people don't share the same memories of how revolutionary the original game was "back in the day," but we hope that this new incarnation of the game will appeal to new folks as well.

I'm sure it will. From what I've seen, you are clearly not trying to go crazy with adding things that change the way the game works. You mentioned a few little surprises like abandoned colonies and so forth, but for the most part you're leaving everything that made the first game so much fun in place. As such, I'm sure it will be embraced by the current generation. There are plenty of fun indie games that are released on GoG and Steam that get lots of exposure, and Sundog Resurrection can at least find a strong niche in the indie market.

I'm confident that there are tens of thousands of fans out there that just haven't made their way to our little corner of the Internet and heard about this game just yet.

Yeah, and even if you cryogenically preserve yourself, you never know if some stupid space jock might just leave you in storage and fly around randomly for his whole life, and never thaw you out.

Sundog was my favorite game way back in the day when I had an Apple ][e. I kept the computer long after I got my DOS - Windows - OS/2 - machines, just for the sole purpose of playing Sundog. The computer eventually was taken up to the family cabin so more people could experience the awesomeness of this game. I got all my nephews hooked on it and there were lines that formed at the machine at night. Apparently my mother didn't realize the importance of the old Apple ][e computer and donated it to the annual labor day fundraiser at the local camp. Needless to say I was horrified the next time I went up there and couldn't find it! Many years back I was thinking back on the game and did a Google search. To my surprise, there was still quite a following, and some movement on re-creating the game for modern day. I followed the progress, or lack of, for several years and finally resigned myself that it would never come back. Just a few days ago, I was talking with some guys at work about favorite early computer games and brought it up on my laptop to show them about it. To my surprise, the website says the game will soon be in Beta! I can hardly wait to see the old game which will be reborn! Thank you for all of your hard work in making this a reality! Looking forward to it's release!
Thank you,
Ken

Ken, I'm glad you found our little corner of the Internet. It's true, they're soon going to be releasing a beta, and I'm truly excited about it. One thing that makes me happy is that this isn't an attempt to take a great older game and change how it works - The Fallout series for example - This is using the same top down perspective for moving around, and the same cockpit view for flying the Sundog, it's just higher resolution, with more colors. There's other nice additions such as a lot more potential lines of conversation/etc, but Jake and the team aren't reinventing the wheel, they're just making an already great thing better.

A friend recently asked me what my favorite game was and I replied that it was Sundog, Frozen Legacy. Of course he wanted to know what the game was about, so after a few moments of racking my brain, I replied:
"Sundog is a space exploration game where you inherited a ship from your uncle, with instructions to found a colony. You fight pirates, buy and sell stock goods and gradually upgrade your colony.
It has hours and hours of unique dialogue for things as simple as haggling over prices in a bar to buy and sell unique items. You can warp your space ship between systems, fly sub-light inside systems and visit each planet. Each planet has multiple cities, each of which sells different goods, which you need in order to level the colony up.
All in all it's an incredibly in-depth game which was so far ahead of it's time that I've still not seen many games like it in the 30 years since it was release."
I left so much out of the description and even then felt I had gone on for too long. I am curious how, in a paragraph or 2, you would describe the game to someone who has never heard of it?

lol Sundog is a tough one to describe in a nutshell because there are so many layers to it. And the fact it was so multi-faceted on an Apple II or Atari ST is really impressive. It's been a mountain of work just replicating what those guys did WAYYYyyyy back in the day.
