Hey guys,
Long time without me posting... I need help. I am working on a GURPS role-playing game very close to SunDog (and other inspirations from Sci-fy shows) and am making the starmap. Since I am cheap and I don't want to fork 40 USD for a 3D starmap generator, I am making my own using pencil and MS-Excel.
So my question is, how large is the 3D array in Sundog: Frozen Legacy? I used to think it was 15LY x 15LY x 15LY, but now that I'm starting to do the math, this seems WAY to large. Trying to remember and booting up the old game (in my case, AtariST version), it seems much smaller.
Woremed is always at the center (say 0,0,0 position), in every game I played, it's close to there... If I where to guess, the map would be X,Y each -7 to +7 Light Years, and the height map (the size of the system on the map, that's how you know) seems to have roughly 7 sizes too.
So Am I right to think that the Drahew sector would be 14 by 14 by 7 light years (so 14 left-right, 14 up-down, and 7 for height? Does anyone know the real in-game size ?
Thank you for any answers.
PS: Personally thinking of making my own map anywhere between 10x10x10 to 15x15x15, but since the my players' ship will be limited to a Jump of 8LY at first, and 12 will all 4 Jump-Boosters components installed in the Warp Bay (I did say it was close to SunDog, heh), I don't want to make things so far away that they get stuck and unable to get somewhere (well, except Enlie, but as long as it's between 9-12 J-Jump, then it's fine).
PPS: This makes me appreciate just how FAAAAARRRR before it's time SunDog was... Good night everyone.

If it's any help, I noticed that if one were to travel from New Shoot to Enlie (not possible with just one jump), it would be 19.3 j-secs. Assuming each j-sec is one light year, then the Drahew Region must extend to at least 19.3 LY. Personally, I would call it 20 LY on each side.

Okay, the furthest I had seen was 15 point something. Since it simulates 3D, 15x15x15 brings the distance between the 2 furthest points at 25.9 so that is too large 20x20x7 brings it to 29.13 which is even worse. 10x10x7 is 15.77 which is getting closer, 10x10x10 is 17.3, 12x12x12 is 20.7 so too much but very close. Since the map in the original was randomly generated (with a specific few rules like Enlie must me 9 LY from just one point) if we allow for this randomization (not present in Resurrected legacy), the 12 LY bubble seems the most probable. Actually 15x15x7 gives 21 max. But that would be having a system at minimum height, and another at maximum height, both at the farthest point on the 2d-map. Jamdan, did you test in Resurrected Legacy or Frozen legacy for your test? the new game is different and will provide different answers. For the sake of my own map, I think I'll just expend it a bit and go for the 15LY in all three axis of the matrix. But if anyone else has any input, let us know, just remember I am talking of the original sundog here

I haven't played Frozen Legacy in decades. The numbers I have are from Resurrected Legacy. Allow me to apologize if I led you off on a tangent - I was under the impression that you were working with RL; it never occurred to me that you were going back in time as well as space. :-) Of course, it probably would have helped if I actually read the title of this string! DOH!!!

Update: So I went with a 15ly 3d matrix. with a 95% random generated number for system location (had to edit Enlie to prevent players of getting there without a jump booster, and Sosai which ended up so remote it was impossible to get there without like 2 or three jump boosters (players can put 4 in the SunDog in my game).
It gave J-Jumps of between 3 and 20 LY, with the huge majority being between 9-13LY, but every system can be reached by "hopping" to a temporary one. So yeah 15LY is definitely too large for Frozen Legacy. If I have more time (or drive to) I will try a 10 LY bubble next time, I get the feeling this would give proper numbers closer to the original. In my game however it's not a killer as with all 4 jump boosters, players will have a 16LY jump range.
Still if anyone has the real size of SunDog: FROZEN Legacy, let me know. Have a nice summer all (or what's left of it, heh).
