Hi all,
I know the developers aren't in this for the money - they are in this for the love of the game and I am sure that's why we have all found our way here.
However, I think this is the type of game that could easily go on Steam for a few quid. There are even early release titles available.
Anyway, I was just wondering how much you would pay for Sundog? Personally, I think this could easily sell for £9.99/14.99.

I would pay for this title, the price point you mention is good too.

One of the problems with charging money for - well, for anything, but for a game in this instance - is that you are then on the hook to provide a higher level of technical support than if it was free. There's a different level of service that people expect when they pay money for something. This game is obviously being made as a labor of love, but that love can turn quickly into resentment in the right (or wrong in this case) set of circumstances.
That said, I'm on the fence. I think the game is great and that the team deserves to make some money from it. I don't, however, know where that lands them on a legal basis. I know they have permission to write and distribute the game, but I don't know if they have the right to charge for it.
I'd love to see this go on GoG and Steam and for them to make a hundred thousand dollars from it. Even at $10 USD, a mere 10,000 players would make the team quite a nice chunk of money. I don't know now many people remember this awesome game, but I would suspect that anyone who's played it in the past would cheerfully spend ten bucks on it!

lol yeah we've gotten quite a lot of emails and comments about how people would like to pay for the game or donate. We appreciate that very much, but the reality is the legal waters are stormy when money becomes involved, especially as the copyright is still held by Wayne Holder, not Bruce Webster. He graciously let Bruce set up this project, but generating income from Sundog is probably not kosher.
Also, Kailef has a good point - this game was made by non-professionals (in the game development sense) out of love and respect for the original game, so hopefully people will play the game, help us improve it through Beta test reports, and be forgiving about anything that pops up. :-)
Speaking of Wayne Holder, he has been thinking about making a commercial Sundog game for many years now. Perhaps this beta and the excitement/publicity it creates for Sundog will help him get that project moving. I know everyone here will love to play his commercial Sundog remake, if and when it materializes.

I'd be happy at the £5 mark myself.
You could also perhaps think about going the donation route, as this could help solve the piracy issue, and you could issue the game as a torrent.
I notice some folk make £100,000+ by that route, though some make it appear that you need to pay for the game when you are trying to download it, and hide the download link somewhere not easily found, even though its a free download, thus some folk will just pay a small amount (£3 seems the sweetspot for that from what I can gather.) to solve all the hassle of, where is the download button !
Donation might also be tied to the developers rather than the game itself, which could help with the legal issues.

I'd pay at least 20 bucks.. as I am sure it wont come with that awesome booklet it used to come with way back when. I am going to look for my manual(i have 2 of them somewhere). Maybe even the floppies it came with. One was sent to me as a bug fix.. since that was like 25+ years ago not sure how I got it.. I think I wrote them about my buggy apple Sundog experience and they sent me another. An iPad app would rock, i'd pay for that right now I'm beta testing on my linux box (debian 4.5-2)

Has anyone spoken to Wayne about the license? I would figure that you could have a financial agreement x% of sales to lease the license (something like a royalty I guess), or at least to see if he is going to get off his duff and make a commercial version.

Literally nothing. It's honestly better on a ST emulator.
