Here are my favorite ST games from the 80's. I'm sure there are some missing. I was fortunate that my neighbor owned one of the few exclusive ATARI stores, so I would help out from time to time. This gave me access to all the new goodies that would come out.
Again, my favorites in no particular order:
Sundog Maniac Mansion Wolfenstein Populous Oids Shufflepuck Cafe Joust Gunship Sim City Zak McKrakken Battlehawks 1942 Their Finest Hour: Battle of Britain Space Quest Leisure Suit Larry Deja Vu Garfield: Big Fat Hairy Deal Garfield: Winter's Tail Mortville Manor North and South Space Ace Star Trek: The Rebel Universe Univited Flight Simulator

I played Oids on a Macintosh Centris 610 back in the early 90's if I remember right. That was pretty fun. And of course I loved Sundog. But, something that really sticks out in Marc's list is "Space Ace". That was my favorite video game for years and years. I loved it but always died and pumped huge amounts of tokens into that game for months at the arcade, until my family went on vacation to a resort hotel that had a small arcade and amusement center downstairs, where the games were set to "free play", and they had a Space Ace. Yes, my friends, a Space Ace video game on free play. I spent nearly every waking hour of the ten days that I was on vacation down in that little amusement center, playing Space Ace over and over and over and over again until I had mastered all the scenes in the "Cadet" mode and could beat it on a single credit. Then I worked on "Captain" until I could beat it on a single credit. And then, yes, I played it in "Space Ace" mode until I could beat it on a single credit. I really don't know how many times I played through that game while I was there, probably four to five hundred times, but I never got tired of it. And then - Then I got to return home, and go to the arcade with my dad, and play Space Ace all the way through from start to finish, with a crowd of thirty or forty people watching me play and cheering me on every time I was there. Truly, it was one of the coolest things ever to happen to me as a kid. It was inversely heartbreaking when the game finally broke down and was never replaced. That old arcade that I loved so much slowly changed from a fun and exciting place to meet friends and have fun, to a place were you played whack-a-mole and pulled giant levers in order to get tickets to redeem for the cheapest garbage ever manufactured. Then, the arcade closed down altogether. But I'll always have my memories. "Call me Ace, huh?" -Dexter from Space Ace

The arcades back then were fun. I worked part-time at the mall arcade between 81 and 83. All the great games were out then. Of course us staff got to play for free. My best games were Tron and Tempest. But I did sample most of them. By mid to late 80's the arcade declined. But by then I had the Atari 1040ST and a PC. Fun days!

If you ever get a chance - And even if you don't, you should make the opportunity - You've got to visit the American Classic Arcade Museum in New Hampshire, USA. It's located on the top floor of the "Funspot" arcade. Overall it is the physically largest arcade in the world according to Guinness Book of World Records, and it also has the largest collection of 80's arcade games in the world, including some massively rare stuff. It is truly a must-see for anyone who is an arcade fanatic and misses the "old days". I can't recommend it enough. The sounds, the smells, it's all there.

I try to remember to stop in to New Hampshire. I pass thru from time to time when visiting family in Nova Scotia.

All awesome stuff on that list, for sure! Also, man, I would have lived at an arcade when I was a kid if I was given the opportunity.

Sundog Dungeon Master (All) Star Fleet I: The War begins.
I'm glad to see Jake mention Starglider. I remember hours of mindless flying through that wire frame landscape ;-)
