Hello to the old and new players. I didn't find this gem of game until the early 90's on my Atari ST. I was to busy player Elite on my BBC micro computer @ 14 years old! Really looking forward to the Beta.. . the watching and waiting has been a long one.

Welcome! Yes, it has been a very long time. I think you will be pleased with the game! It is a good balance of old-school gameplay and visual style and new features and improved graphics.

I played Elite and Sundog on the Apple. I did eventually get both on Ebay for the ST but I never played Elite yet.... The thing I loved about Sundog was the feeling that the ship was home... and mine. I could walk around, grab a snack, drive around town, come back home.
I really hope the new game gives me an even better sense of that immersion.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Being able to fly to different planets but always have the ship to come back to was pretty awesome for its time. (It's still awesome now) I always took it personally when pirates attacked my ship.

I've only ever played on the ST, but logged many many hours with my dad. Looking forward to flying a bucket of bolts full of shunts again.

Believe it or not, my Dad was very much into the Atari ST. Got 1 for me, I was crazy about Sundog and then my young son started playing. He liked to go out fully shielded & armed to talk whatever he could from the muggers, and probably anybody else he came across.

Has anybody ever played FTL's Dungeon Master? I mention it because one of the characters you can play from that game is named Zed Duke of Banville. I always thought that was a fun easter egg.
My Atari 520ST finally died and is beyond revival, so I'm excited to see Sundog brought into the current era.

I played it, but only a little - I didn't have an Atari ST, I was an Apple ][+ and //e user until I got my first Macintosh, so I only fooled around with it when I was visiting a friend who had an Atari. Didn't know about that particular easter egg. That's cool. :-)

I don't understand the Zed Duke reference tho'. Could you explain it? I'm new here, and here because I never finished Sundog on my old 1040 ST... that was a great machine for the day, wasn't it? I can hardly wait to play the new version of Sundog- I've got to complete it this time, I'm getting old!

It's a reference to Sundog. Zed is the name of the player character according to the story that accompanies the original Sundog. Plus, Banville is the city that you are trying to build up as you progress through the various phases of the Sundog game.

Oh for goodness' sake! I should have remembered that- when I googled it, I got references to what I think is the original DUngeon Master turn based game. Of course, I played FTL's DM all the way through back in 1987- that's a long time ago! And I failed at Sundog on my ST a bit earlier.

Greetings fellow ST players! I played Sundog on my 1040 ST back in the early 80's and I always missed it after I migrated to the PC. I was very excited when I first saw the FTL Game back in '12, but to my dismay, it wasn't Sundog. So I started searching and found the resurrection web page but it was pretty much dormant. So I kept checking every few months or so and today... Today I hit paydirt! I hadn't checked in a while and the beta was a complete surprise. I am looking forward to reacquaint myself with Sundog! Well met.

welcome Kimon. I also played Sundog on my Atari STs (I had several.... started with 520 ST, then 1040 STe, then Falcon 030). Sundog was a game I always went back to and was the only game in my games arsenal that my DAD played. So I have extra found memories of this game since I got to talk about and compare notes with my dad. Well, the 1040 STe eventually died, and just a couple years ago my 520 ST finally died - RIP; so I couldnt play Sundog anymore (I could never get the game to run properly on the Falcon - although Dungeon Master and Chaos Strikes back, two other FTL games, do run on the Falcon - so go figure).
haha.. Long winded way of saying I'm also happy to see momentum on the resurrection project, even if it's small. Any movement is good. wooo..

Hey fellow Sundoggers, I also started playing Sundog on my Atari 1040 ST back in the 80s. Got a lot of memories playing on my atari back then. I totally miss the Sundog space trader/pilot/bounty hunter experience. Yeah, I used to load up on shields and scatterguns, and hit the streets for thugs and cash. Haha. I also used to be a gun and drug runner with my character--made a lot more credits that way! The story line and gameplay were never matched, and I always wondered what happened, why didnt they make a follow up game. Well here I am, 30 years later, ready to play the Beta. Can't wait! -Uberman
