I never played Sundog on an Apple II and often wondered what the differences were. I know academically that the Apple version had the Autoslew, but I don't know anything else. Can anyone elucidate?

I only played all the way through on my Apple, so I can't really say. I did mess around with an ST emulator in semi-recent years to see what the ST version was like, but I didn't delve in very deeply so I couldn't spot any differences on the surface besides the graphical differences.

I never played the Apple version very seriously...but I know that one difference is the existence of the Autoslew. This ship part could be found in Shescho on the Apple version and would automatically track enemy ships for you.
Also, the game developer on Drahew that just might approach you and ask you if you're enjoying the game? He only lives on an Atari.

I distinctly remember liking Autoslew. It was difficult to do those space battles on an Apple. It really was. *grin*

The Apple version only had "Food" with a fork/spoon icon. The Apple had layer move v.e.r.y...s.l.o.w.l.y when walking. like 3-4x as slow. The economy from bars gave more money (but since you moved slower I'm not sure it was worth it). Glory yielded much more on certain parts sold than the Atari Version (Cloaker would sell for ~25k or so... but only for 7-10k on Atari) Apple had no parking lots, you could leave the pod anywhere and not have any break-ins or parking tickets. AutoSlews where already mentioned by Banville. AtariST had a much better take-off/landing animation which still holds up today as far as I'm concerned.
I don't know of any more differences beside graphical/sound ones.

Going from memory, some of the additions were: Parking / Parking tickets. On the Apple you could park anywhere. There wasn't much reason to ever walk anyplace. Slot machines? You could reach all of the planets from the git go. I gather on the Atari there is a boost of some kind you need to finish the game?
