Uhuuh, i'm so glad to read this new update of the programming progress! I don't know how many times i played Sundog on my Atari ST back in the 80's and later on with STEEM... Guess i got the maximum final score of 325 (+25) at least 10 times, now I can't what to face new Sundog challenges. In the meantime, does anyone have Otter ideas how to finish the original game in a very special way? (e.g. I managed to finish it in less than 30 days).
And for about 30 years I wonder what sunsuns are. At least you creators should be able to tell me!
Greetings from Germany,
Bernhard

Greetings! Glad to have you with us! Yes, this new game will have many of the original challenges, with some new twists!
As for sunsuns? lol good question. In fact, this is a question that we have gotten quite a bit - I've lost count of how many people have asked! The exact nature of Sunsuns has always been a bit murky, but I will post here the OFFICIAL description of Sunsuns for the SDR Project. We have a list of descriptions of all stocks found in the game (which will probably be found in the Sundog ship's computer or in game documentation).
So, for the first time ever, here is a sneak peak at one of the stock descriptions and hopefully will shed light on this strange commodity....
SUNSUNS:
The dawn of the modern technological age exponentially increased power consumption and demand, often testing the power generation limits first-world planets and exceeding those of the scattered colonies.
To match the demand, scientists on Glory I developed a form of inertial confinement fusion that generated nuclear fusion power on vastly greater scales than ever before achieved. A spherical array of finely-tuned lasers blast a suspended fuel pellet within the confinement core, causing the pellet’s outer layer to explode. The explosion compresses and heats the pellet beyond critical and a runaway fusion chain-reaction ignites the rest of the pellet and, for a brief time, forms a tiny "sun" within the confinement core. The energy released by the microfusion far exceeds the power required to trigger the explosion.
Inertial confinement generators have been so successful that they are found in any part of the Drahew Region and can be economically viable for both small and large energy production systems. The consumable fuel pellets, each a spherical alloy of exotic metals, are affectionately known to the public as "sunsuns."

Thank you for the description! Now I don't have to worry about taking this lack of knowledge into my grave. ? Greets, Bernhard
