I was just reading a board game post about how this guy claimed to put certain elements together "for the first time" back in the late nineties, and I thought, heck, SunDog did that 15 years earlier!
Which got me to reminiscing about SunDog. Which got me to google SunDog. Which led me here.
I had such a blast playing SunDog in the mid-80s on my Atari ST. I remember the sense of pride that I had in finishing it, and I took a picture of the final screen. No idea where that picture is now.
Glad to be here, and I'd love to help with the Beta. I've been a software developer and a gamer for 40 years.

Randy,
Great to meet you! 40 years of software development, wow! Have you worked on anything mainstream (or maybe not so mainstream) that I would have heard of?
I totally agree about Sundog. In my opinion, Sundog and Ultima 4 and 5 were the leading edge of sandbox-style gaming, far ahead of their time. Heck, they didn't even coin the term "open world" or "sandbox" until at least twenty years later, I think. Released smack in the middle of the 80's, there was nothing at all like either of those games. People tried to "clone" them of course, but at that point, and for many years afterward, nothing really came close to those games with regard to depth of play and how immersed you could become in the universe.

I've done mostly internal systems, telecom software, robotics, and expert systems, nothing you would have heard of. Primarily Java for the last 15 years.
Another set of games that I later enjoyed was Star Control 2 and 3. They had a more role-playing feel and a lot of humor.
i don't play electronic games much anymore, except on my iPad. I liked Skyrim on my XBox, but it's been a few years since I last played. I do mostly board games when I get a chance.

Sounds like a lot of fun to me! I did coding very early in my career, but it never became the core of what I did. I've been doing outsourced IT almost exclusively for the past twenty odd years or so, and while that does require the occasional script or tweaking on the front end of a database or something, I can't truly call myself a programmer.
By the way, I think Java is what this new incarnation of Sundog is being coded in, if I remember correctly.
I've backed down a lot in playing PC games lately too, but I think that's because of a lack of time to truly commit to playing something. Long gone are the days when I could play games all weekend and all day after work until past midnight. How about you?

Thanks, Mackie. It shouldn't be considered a promotion, really - I just have some moderation experience and I check these forums a several times a daily since I'm a bit of a Sundog fanatic. As such, I was a good fit for the moderator job. Right now though, there's not really much of a "job" to do, we're all just a bunch of Sundog fans looking forward to the first public beta, myself included.

All I ever really do with this job is dispatch fuel tankers to hotshot pilots who forget to top off their tanks before leaving orbit.
