About 2-3 years ago I was starting my own Sundog recreation before I found this site. I was using Unity. My plan was for it not to be exactly like the original and add many rogue-like elements. There would be MANY more units to install in the ship, but all randomized. So part of every playthrough was discovering what each ship component would do. And each could have a different positive or negative effect in different slots. So a cloaker would cloak the ship when in a shield slot, but when it's put in pilotage it would cause all cities to disappear from tactical. And of course different foods would have different effects as well. The systems would be randomized as to law levels, and what would be available on each planet would vary significantly.
And you could scan for other ships, see what they are carrying, and maybe become a pirate yourself. Fighting other ships would be a way to get different ship components. But you might have law problems in high law regions. Anyway, I'm looking forward to what new elements are in the beta.

That sounds pretty cool! I think the field-serviceable engineering bays are one of the ingenious features of the game. It feeds into the natural satisfaction to tinker and fix things, and is a perfect gateway for adding upgrades.
Feel free to make suggestions for the game in the Beta suggestion board, but don't get discouraged if we can't get to them right away. As the LOOOOooooonnnng development process attests to, both Wai and I have been super busy with work and home life, so we don't have a huge amount of time to begin with, and so the time we have to work on the project will focus first on improving the game and fixing bugs, then we'll start focusing more on feature additions.
